Dear god, where do I even begin.
I went to see this movie because it was the only film on at a good time, and I knew it was going to be fairly average. I had some hope going in knowing that Jason Segel had worked on the screenplay but even I didn't expect this.
From beginning to end, Sex Tape was a relatively predictable romp, and I felt the punchlines coming before they could even be set up.
Often I was left wondering whether this film was entirely funded on advertising. I felt like Apple was constantly trying to tell me how great their iPads were with their high definition cameras and the ability to sync seamlessly with "the cloud". I was even asking if pornography sites like Pornhub, Redtube, etc. contributed money to have their names mentioned. Paired with lack of laughs, I felt like the films sole purpose was to sell me stuff.
Oh yeah, and to show off the stars mostly naked. That was a pretty prominent feature I suppose.
The performances were fine, nothing spectacular on anyone's behalf, but there were a few minor hiccups in performance here and there. The only notable exception is Rob Lowe, because who doesn't enjoy a bit of Rob Lowe?
Sex Tape is an incredibly underwhelming film, but a decent ad (mind you, it does also point out the negatives of such products and technology). If you are sitting around trying to work out whether buying the new Apple product is good idea or not, it may be worth checking out this film. If you want a laugh, go watch some 80's horror films or something.
